Play Doh - Play Dough (No Stove Top Cooking Required)

"My daughter loves to play with play dough and she loves to make it with me, but I'm always worried about a hot stove. This recipe doesn't require cooking on the stove top, however care is still need. If your child is going to help, please note once the boiling water is added, it's HOT. It could easily burn hands even adult hands (I used heat resistant gloves). This makes heaps of play dough, approximately two kilograms. You could use more food colouring for a stronger colour or add glitter for a fun tone. For the bench flour you may need to add more or less depending on the dough"

  1. I made this recipe about five weeks ago and waited to see how well the mixture lasted. As long as it is kept in a covered container I put it in a Gladware plastic container) it seems to be lasting a long time. I used a KitchenAid stand up mixer fitted with a dough hook to prep the dough/doh and the recipe was cut in half. Be warned that the dough leaves a slightly oily residue on any surface that it comes in contact with: fabric and furniture, for example. Furthermore, because the play dough contains food dye, there is the chance of surface stains. ~Tasty~ plays with the dough on her child-sized plastic table and clean up is easy. It is is much more pliable (no crumbles!) than its commercial counterpart which means it is easier to mold. Put out some (seasonal) cookie cutters, a small child-size rolling pin, etc. and watch them be easily entertained. Inexpensive, simple and quick to make. Thank you!
