Pork and Beans Bread

"A friend gave me this recipe and told me not to tell anyone the main ingredient is pork and beans. No one has guessed the secret ingredient,but many have enjoyed this bread."

  • Add raisins to boiling water and set aside.
  • Mash beans with a fork in a large bowl until smooth.
  • Add sugar,eggs,oil and vanilla.
  • Mix well.
  • Sift together dry ingredients and fold inches.
  • Drain raisins and fold in with chopped nuts.
  • Spoon batter into three greased and floured loaf pans.
  • Bake in a 325-degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes,or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

  1. The reason I gave this bread 2 stars is because it is extemely dense. Maybe more baking powder would do the trick. The bread has a unique taste that I liked (cinnamon raisin with a twist).
     
  2. I have waited a long time to rate this. I made two loafs several months ago and gave them to my DIL. She put them in her freezer and used them over the holidays. She said that all her guests loved them and they both were finished in one morning, topped with cream cheese and blueberry jam. NOBODY even guessed what was in these. From her you get 5 stars. The third loaf was only a mini loaf(not enough batter for another large loaf)and was given to my mailman for Labor Day holiday. He said He liked it but his wife thought it was bitter...thus the four stars. My promise to make these again and try it MYSELF!
