Portuguese Filet Mignon With Mushroom Sauce

This is what is stated on the site about this recipe: This is a recipe for an upscale steak served at a former Lisbon restaurant. Though it is not traditional it has rave reviews."

  • Rub both sides of the steaks with the cut side of the lemons.
  • Season the steaks with the salt, chili pepper and chopped garlic.
  • Heat the margarine in a sauce pan. Add the milk, port wine and
  • Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a high simmer over medium-high heat. Toss in the sliced mushrooms and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, reducing the sauce. Set aside.
  • Grill the steaks for 5 minutes on each side. Meanwhile, toast the slices of bread and place them on the serving dishes.
  • Top the toast with the steaks. Ladle the mushroom sauce over.

  1. This is more than a 5-star recipe! I just loved the mushrooms, and the steak was awesome as well. Rubbing the steak with lemon I think made all the difference. I did change the technique for the mushroom sauce just a bit - I sauteed the onions in the butter, and THEN added the milk, wine, etc. Regardless, it was delicious!! Thanks for posting! Made for CQ3, Team Pi Rho Maniacs.
     
  2. The Worcestershire sauce was very overwhelming. If made again, I would reduce it by at least half. The sauce was also runny, it was like water. I would add some flour. BUT if you like A1 on your steak, you would probably love the recipe as is.
     
  3. This was quite good, I enjoyed the rub on the steak and the mushrooms had a wonderful flavor. I bought the bread and just remembered it now (hours later), anyways it was great without it. Made for ZWT5
     
  4. Yummo!!! Of course the filets were awesome, but the mushrooms really make this recipe a hit. We loved them! The port flavor really enhanced the mushrooms (used baby bellas). I also liked the red pepper flakes on the steaks, we let them sit for about an hour with the seasonings. I used a Portugese white bread for the toast, but we pretty much ended up eating it by dipping it into the mushroom sauce! Made for Las Mistico Magicos Sirenas - ZWT 5.

I won't cook anything with rosemary or curry, as I really don't like either herbs' flavor.
