directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour.
  • Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable.
  • The dough should be dry and stiff, don't be concerned with crumbs being left in the bowl.
  • You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.
  • Roll to 1/2-inch thick.
  • Cut into shapes.
  • Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes.

Questions & Replies

  1. Will recipe work in a bake-a-bone unit or will I have to tweak it?

  2. Which size of canned pumpkin? Thanks,,

  3. Are these hard when baked and cooled like Milk Bone brand? I do not want a soft biscuit. Hubby puts a few in his pocket to reward pup during the day. Thanks

  4. Can i use reg milk instead of dry milk and water. I would keep the extras in frig and some frozen. I plan on making enough to use up the whole can of pumpkin.

  5. I use a lot of brown rice flour for my organic pet treats can I grind my own brown rice if so how please?

Reviews

  1. Woof woof woof woof woof means 5 stars from my furkids! These were so easy to make! I used whole wheat flour and chicken broth instead of water, only because I had it on hand. These biscuts will become a regular treat for my dogs! Thanks for posting!

  2. P.S. I baked these on a pizza screen and didn't have to turn them halfway through-and they cooked in 20 minutes very nicely!

  3. Rascal gives these a two paws up! I roll them out and cut them with the pizza wheel. The dog follows me around the kitchen from the time I get the ingredients out until I take them out of the oven. They are his favorite treat! Thanks Kim for a real puppy pleaser. UPDATE: I started out making these biscuits with white flour and then switched to wheat, thinking they would be healthier. Rascal developed allergies and though the vet thought that the cause was environmental, he suggested cutting out wheat just to be on the safe side...so we're back to white flour and Rascal could care less one way or the other. ;) They're still his favorite.

  4. Fantastic! My doggies come hunt me down and start barking and begging for these biscuits. I have never seen them act like they do about these biscuits. I increased the recipe to use a full 15 oz can of pumpkin. You can always refrigerator or freeze dough for later use. If you have a stand mixer use it with the dough hook once you've added enough flour to make it difficult with the paddle.

  5. I breed Westies and all my babies LOVE these! If your dog has a wheat allergy, you can try using potato flour. Just add a little more water, and it turns out the same. The dogs can't taste the difference! You can substitute potato flour for wheat in any dog treat recipe.

Tweaks

  1. I added 3/4 cup pumpkin instead of 1/2 cup and I used Coconut oil instead of water.

  2. I make a lot of almond milk so I have plenty of almond meal. I substituted the almond meal for the flour and added some honey and coconut oil.

  3. 120 pup biscuits for our Basset Harley girl.. I left out the salt and instead of chicken broth that others suggested, I used the left over roast beef juice that I save by freezing. I also added 4 tbsp of peanut butter. (No sugar or preservatives added) She seemed to like them ?

  5. My baby Tucker really liked these! I used ww flour and 3 eggs instead of 2, left out the salt and dry milk, otherwise was very easy to make. My cats also nibbled on one together. However, Tucker for some reason couldnt keep them down, he threw them up after eating one :(

You can follow my food journey at <a href=http://onecookbookatathyme.wordpress.com/>http://onecookbookatathyme.wordpress.com/</a></p> <p>Cooking for family and friends is one of my favorite things to do. I spend most of my free time in the kitchen, either checking out Recipezaar or experimenting with a newly found recipe. <br /><br />My DH and I are both from Texas and we both come from Italian families. Anyone who stops by my house should be prepared to eat!!! I'm always forcing friends and family to try whatever it is that just came out of the oven. I know that is a horrible habit but I can't break it... I think it must be the Italian in me! LOL :) <br /><br />My sister (<a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=85654>Cookin_Kit</a>) and I used to help my Mom (<a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=124343>JudaThann</a>) in the kitchen a lot growing up. I guess that is where my love for cooking began. I also enjoy sharing the kitchen with my DH (<a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=202688>Sgt. Pepper</a>). He doesn't cook as often as he did when we first got married, but he makes an awesome pizza and still makes them at least twice a month. He keeps his recipes for the dough and the sauce top secret, even from me. LOL <br /><br />I have two step-children. The oldest graduated from college and the youngest is a sophomore at Texas Tech. I also have two cats and a dog. When I?m not cooking or hanging out here at Zaar, I like to knit, garden, read, watch old movies, travel, take photos, scrapbook, volunteer at a non-kill animal shelter, and spend time with my family and friends. <br /><br /><img src=http://images.snapfish.com/34359%3C8323232%7Ffp47%3Dot%3E232%3A%3D8%3A3%3D429%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3C2733%3B9%3Bot1lsi alt= /> <br /><br />I'm a co-host with <a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=21399>Karen From Colorado</a> in the <a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/bb/viewforum?f=37>Mexican/Tex-Mex/Southern United States Cooking Forum</a>.
