directions

  • Cook Macaroni in boiling water according to directions on the box.
  • Meanwhile, brown the hamburger, onion, and bacon in a skillet until everything is nicely browned and cooked through.
  • Add the packet of cheese from the Macaroni box, seasonings, ketchup, and butter to the hamburger, and simmer over low heat, stirring often.
  • When macaroni is done, drain and add to the hamburger and cheese mixture, stiring until evenly coated and heated through.
  • Serve and Enjoy! You could also try adding some veggies in if you like, but I usually serve them on the side.

  1. Very yummy! The nice thing is that - unlike a hamburger helper type dish, which this resembles - you control the stuff that goes into it. I did some changes: used about double the onion, added 1 stalk of chopped celery, double garlic powder, subbed 1 heaping T. real bacon bits, skipped the butter. for PAC spring 2010

  2. Really good! I made a few adjustments and did not measure anything, but hope to try the exact recipe when we're able to make the grocery store!

  3. We really liked this! Sometimes for a quick meal I mix ground beef with the blue box mac and cheese, but Velveeta Shells and Cheese is DHs favorite so he has already requested this again! Made for 2012 Spring PAC.

  4. This was so good that even my 3.5year old daughter ate seconds! Thanks for sharing!

Tweaks

  1. Added milk, used my house seasoning (black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder), no bacon (sure it would have been great just wasn't into cooking any lol), and a can of rotel instead of the onion. Basically used what we had on hand and tried to get as close as possible to actual recipe!

I am from north Dakota, the cold state :) I Love food a little too much but I am one of the picky ones, there is a lot of food I Don't like, but I Love cooking just about anything. Right now I am going to School for culinary arts, and loving all the things I'm learning, despite the challenges of going back to school at the age of 33. Though I spend a lot of time working with food I have so very little time to make my own! But I love it anyway :) I Have a little brat of a mini Doxie who is my one ad only baby, but I have lots of other cuties in My life that are very special to me, like my godson in the picture with me above :) 2009 Fall Swap: <img src=http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w115/bugh8er/Halloween/4811_180767.jpg> My Second Swap: <img src=http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w115/bugh8er/4th%20of%20July/4811_126789.jpg> My First Zaar Swap: <img src="http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w115/bugh8er/food%20and%20swaps/4811_99858.jpg"> <img src=http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w115/bugh8er/food%20and%20swaps/4811_154543-1.jpg> My First Zaar World Tour: <img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/participantbannerzwt5.jpg><img src=http://www.recipezaar.com/members/home/79877/hkban.jpg>
