"I have used this recipe for many years and my family loves it, especially my husband. I think I got the recipe off of a crisco can when they still used paper wrapping on the cans."

  1. According to the family, borderline fish eaters, and the head cook and bottle washer who is a confirmed fish hater, this was the best d@mned fish we ever had. Looks like Salmon Patties are going into "cook often" file. Was really easy too. I took a chance and used baking powder, as listed in the ingredients. The instructions said "soda" so I wasn't sure which was a typo. The baking powder worked fine so I assume that is what you meant. Thanks for a great recipe!

  2. Rosemary,I really liked your salmon pattie's,the only thing I did different is I cooked them in olive oil& butter only because I like the butter flavor. Thanks for the recipe!!

  3. This is an awesome recipe. My family loves these Salmon Patties! I also add 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning, it just adds that extra pop! I also love the high protein count! All an added plus! Thanks for sharing this Great recipe!

  4. Absolutely fabtastic! I made a first batch and served it up...turned my back to make the second bathc and my 3yo had eaten all the first ones!! He kep saying 'Yummy! Yummy!' I added some finely chopped spinach and it was very very tasty. I'll be making these very often.

  5. I made this recipe often as a starving student in college over 30 years ago, using the cheaper pink salmon. I got the recipe from my mom, who got it from my aunt, who got it off a Crisco label. When I make it these days, I don't bother taking the skin and bones out of the canned salmon, just mush them up into the mixture. Easier and more nutritious.

Tweaks

  1. I made these with Italian bread crumbs instead of flour. So yummy!

  2. This was a really great tasting recipe. I replaced the flour with five crushed saltine crackers and it added just enough salt to taste. I also added dried minced onions. I fried them in Basil Blend Canola Oil and the basil really meshed with the salmon very well. Gave it that much needed flavor. And finally I served it over corn and pablano rice. Yummy!!! This is a recipe to keep! Oh and I used baking powder, not soda. It works just fine... Jennifer

  3. So good and delicious. I used Canola oil instead of Crisco and they turned out great! My husband loves them. Reminds of the ones he had when he was a kid! Thanks for the recipe. Will make over and over!

Worked for 45 years and due to company reorganization, took early retirement. Enjoying "retirement" very much and have re-discovered cooking and trying new recipes for my husband and myself. I put comments by each recipe in case I want to use it again. When I worked the meals were hurry up types, now I spend more time in meal planning, shopping and cooking. Cooking is no longer a chore. I really enjoy Recipezaar and have emailed recipes to friends/family.
