  • Peel the potatoes grate them into fine strips. Heat the fat in the frying pan. Add the potatoes, sprinkle with salt and stir well to mix them in with the fat.
  • Cover and fry for 20-30 minutes over medium heat, turning regularly. Then uncover the pan, turn the heat up and fry for a further 20 minutes. Towards the end of this time form the mixture into a cake shape. Do not stir them. Flip out of the pan onto a serving dish.

  1. This didn't turn out the way I expected. I used butter and raw potatoes. They stuck to the pan real bad during the lid on phase. I was able to scrape enough together to get a tiny taste. They weren't crispy but had a bit of brown. The taste was very good. I need a little practice, I guess. Thanks for sharing. Made for ZWT7-Switzerland.

  2. We really enjoyed this recipe for breakfast this morning. I coated my pan with pan drippings from bacon I had made earlier, and then followed the recipe as written. I make ours just a little more crisp than normal because that's the way my kids prefer potatoes. And I served them with a little gruyere cheese grated on top, for a bit of a Swiss touch. Like the intro states, this recipe would be fantastic with an herb mix added, or even a bit of chopped onion or green bell pepper. Yum. Thanks for sharing your recipe, Wendelina. Made for ZWT7, Mischief Makers.

  3. This recipe didn't work out for me at all! I don't think I did anything wrong while following the recipe, but some of the potatoes burned and some turned really mushy. I hope someone else will give this a try to see if it was my mistake. Made for ZWT 7.
