Raisin Cake With Browned Butter Frosting

"A very old recipe from Darlene Kossman. The recipe has no eggs . Also, the recipe says you can use less spice. i cut the cake in 1/2 and made in square cake pan very moist cake"

  • Cream sugar and lard. ( i used butter not lard).
  • Cook raisins and 2 cups water for 15 minutes.
  • Add and mix together the mushy applesauce, lard and sugar.
  • Add dry ingredients and vanilla.
  • Bake in 9x13 greased pan for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Frosting: melt the butter and stir over heat until golden.
  • Add cream, water, vanilla and powdered sugar.
  • Spread on cake.it gets hard when cooled.
