Raisin Scones

"I have been making these on and off for at least 25 years. Sometimes I leave out the raisins but they are delicious with or without them. There is never one left over."

directions

  • Put the first six ingredients in a large bow.
  • Mix with 1 cup milk.
  • (Try not to handle too much. You may need a tiny bit more milk but you don't want sticky dough.) Pat on a floured board and shape into a circle.
  • Then cut in diamond shapes.
  • Bake at 375 for 15 minutes or golden brown.

  1. These are simply the best tasting, easiest to make scones!!!! The texture is perfect. I used canola oil for shortening and added CRAISINS. I am hooked.

  2. these were really tasty, especially when i added a touch of nutmeg to the batter, however, they were rock hard once they came out the oven. BUT, i'm going to try again in case i did anything wrong.

  3. Wow! I made these with rice flour and added a bit of cream cheese to make the batter stick together better. I also used dried blueberries instead of raisins. They didn't get very brown after 15 minutes, but they are delicious nonetheless! Absolutely fantastic with butter. (I'm literally eating one as I type this.)

  4. These were really easy. I made them using margarine and mixed craisins with the raisins. Mine burned on the bottom a little but they were still good. I prefer them warmed up but even room temperature, they were just the right consistency.

  5. These didn't rise or brown very much but after 20 minutes I decided to take them out of the oven for fear that they would harden. They did taste great though!

  2. I loved these! So easy!! I substituted dates for the raisins and they were wonderful!! Thanks for the great recipe. Scones are my favorite snack with coffee and I know these will not last.

I love to cook and so I am thrilled that I found recipezaar. I work as an educational assistant in a food school so I am around food all day long. I have four children, three of which have already flown the coop so to speak but I still have my 'baby' at home. (He's 21). I am lucky in that I have my summers off so I spend a lot of time trying new recipes and catching up on my reading. I also play soccer in a ladies league to stay in shape.
