Rhineland (German) Salad Dressing

"A wonderful dressing that goes well with almost anything. A nice balance of sweet, sour, and spice. It comes from a 55 year old German cookbook that my father gave me many years ago."

  1. This is awesome! I made it as written but used garlic tabasco. All of the flavors blend nicely. I used it as dressing on a tossed green salad. Thanks for sharing. Made for ZWT 6.

  2. This salad dressing is a little sharp, so I used it with a chopped salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and parsley. It was tasty. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

  3. I make a lot of homemade dressings and this one was very different from any others I've made in the past. I wasn't sure about it on first taste, but it really grew on me! It is quite tart, but I love tart dressings. Like the previous reviewer, I did not get 3/4 cup - I had about 3/8 cup, but that was perfect for my needs. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

  4. I had intended to use this with a tossed green salad, but after tasting decided to add grilled beef, peppers, and tomatoes. The most pronounced flavor is the Worcestershire sauce. Made for ZWT 6.

  5. MMMMmmmm, think I like this one! I thought it might be too sweet with the powdered sugar, but the vinegar, mustard, and lemon juice are nice counter notes. Thnx for sharing your recipe, Chef Jeff. Made for PAC Spring 2010. You've been adopted! http://www.recipezaar.com/bb/viewtopic.zsp?t=327498&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Was raised in NE Fla/ SE Ga. I've always been fascinated with food and cooking scince I was a young boy. I hung around Grandmothers, Aunts, Mom, Dad, Uncles, etc. to learn their ways. I've lived in FL, Ga, SC, VA, TX, and for the last 16 years on the Front Range of Colorado. I drove semi trucks to 48 states and believe me, I rarely ate truck stop food. I searched every town for a restaurant or cuisine I'd never tried. I've recently moved back home to the best food in the country, Georgia.
