  • You can make the recipe to this point up to 3 days in advance and keep, covered, in refrigerator.
  • To make and serve sandwiches: Reheat au jus. Split bagueette pieces and spread each side evenly with Boursin cheese. Divide roast beef among sandwiches. Close sandwiches, place on baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees for about 3 minutes or until just warmed. Serve with small cups hot au jus for dipping.

  1. I chose this recipe as I wanted to try the Au Jus to go along with another roast beef sandwich recipe. This is so full of flavor and really makes a French Dip type of sandwich awesome!! I made 1/2 of the recipe and had more then enough for the two sandwiches. Prior to serving, I poured the mixture through a sieve into the little cups. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Made for Spring 2013 Pick A Chef event.

  2. I slowly heated leftover thinly sliced roast beef in the au jus before placing on the broiled bread. Added a bit of horseradish to give it a bit of zing. Super tasty. Thanks for sharing Lorraine3!

  3. Very, very tasty! I find a lot of au jus in restaurants to be too salty, this was perfectly savory and rich. I made it for a baby shower and it was a huge hit!

  4. This by FAR is the best Au Jus recipe I have EVER had--it turned my ordinary French Dip Sandwich into something extraordinary!! I cooked a rump roast in the crock pot all day, shredded it and mixed a portion of this sauce in with the shredded meat for flavor. I saved the rest for dip. We broiled the buns with cheese--and sat down to eat and Wow! This turned one of my favorite dishes-- French Dip Sandwiches-- into a delicasy! I had no idea they could taste so good! My family Loved it! Thank You, Thank You for sharing this recipe!

  5. This is the best base recipe for Au Jus out there. I as well strain the solids out of it just before portioning it into small bowls. I also use shallots instead of onion, seems to add an extra bit of depth. Superb! Thanks Lorrain!
