  1. Heat molasses to boiling point. Add shortening sugar and salt. Sift together flour and spices, add alternately with beaten egg. Drop by teaspoonful on a well greased cookie sheet. Bake at 300F for about 10 minutes. Cool 2 minutes and curl around a wooden spoon handle that has been greased. Cookies may be filled with Molasses Butter Frosting. (If cookies become too crisp to roll, heat a few minutes in oven.) For best results on this recipe, use Fancy Molasses, "Lite" molasses is not recommended.
  2. MOLASSES BUTTER FROSTING:
  3. Add 1 cup confectioners sugar, egg white and flavoring to creamed butter. Mix well. Add remaining confectioners sugar alternately with molasses and milk. Beat well.
