Shrimp and Green Onion Dumplings in Red Bell Peppers

“These yummy dumplings are cooked in red bell peppers instead of the traditional won ton wrappers. From a March 1989 issue of Bon Appetit and were featured as part of a "Let's Do Dim Sum" menu.”

  1. For Filling:.
  2. Coarsely chop first 3 ingredients in processor using on/off turns.
  3. Add next 7 ingredients and process until just smooth,15 seconds.
  4. Halve each pepper piece crosswise; dust insides with cornstarch.
  5. Spoon about 1 tablespoon filling into each; press lightly.
  6. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.).
  7. For Sauce:.
  8. Combine all ingredients in small bowl and whisk to blend.
  9. Let stand for 30 minutes to blend flavors.
  10. Heat large skillet over high heat;add oil and swirl to coat bottom.
  11. Arrange peppers filling side up in skillet in single layer.
  12. Reduce heat to low; cover and cook 5 minutes.
  13. Add water, cover and steam until filling is firm and opaque, about 2 minutes.
  14. Serve dumplings immediately.
