  • Cover prunes with cold water and soak overnight.
  • Simmer until tender in the same water.
  • Add half the sugar and cook five minutes longer.
  • Remove prunes; measure 1/2 cup juice, add orange juice, remaining sugar and kumquats and simmer until kumquats are tender.
  • Add prunes.
