- Cover prunes with cold water and soak overnight.
- Simmer until tender in the same water.
- Add half the sugar and cook five minutes longer.
- Remove prunes; measure 1/2 cup juice, add orange juice, remaining sugar and kumquats and simmer until kumquats are tender.
- Add prunes.
