2 tablespoons vegetable oil
¹⁄₄ cup minced fresh onion
1 ¹⁄₂ cups water
¹⁄₂ cup tomato paste
¹⁄₂ cup white vinegar
¹⁄₂ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 ³⁄₄ teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 teaspoon whiskey
¹⁄₄ teaspoon fresh coarse ground black pepper
¹⁄₈ teaspoon garlic powder
¹⁄₈ teaspoon paprika

directions

Heat oil in a medium sauce pan over medium-high heat.
Saute the onion for 5 minutes until they start the brown.
Add the remaining ingredients and bring mixture to boil then reduce heat and simmer for 1 ¼ hours, uncovered, or until the sauce thickens.
Remove from heat.
