Snickerdoodles

"My mom used to make these cookies when I was a kid. We lost the recipe and no other snickerdoodles tasted the same. My sister found that she had given a copy of the recipe to a friend's daughter, so now I'm posting it here for safekeeping."

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Farenheit.
  • Cream together butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar.
  • Add eggs and vanilla extract.
  • Mix flour, cream of tartar, salt, and baking soda in separate bowl.
  • Blend together wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
  • Mix together cinnamon and the rest of the sugar in a shallow bowl.
  • Roll dough into tablespoon-sized balls, and roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Place on greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until firm and just starting to brown.
