- 532.32 ml all-purpose flour
- 118.29 ml granulated sugar
- 118.29 ml butter, softened
- 78.78 ml molasses
- 78.78 ml applesauce
- 1 egg
- 7.39 ml ground cinnamon
- 4.92 ml baking powder
- 4.92 ml ground ginger
- 2.46 ml ground cloves
- 2.46 ml ground nutmeg
- 2.46 ml baking soda
- 2.46 ml salt
directions
- In a large bowl, with mixer at slow speed, beat flour, sugar, butter, molasses, applesauce, egg, cinnamon, baking powder, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt until well mixed. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F On a lightly floured surface, working with half of the dough at a time, roll 1/8 inch thick. With floured cookie cutters, cut dough into shapes. Using a metal spatula or pancake turner, place cookies 1/2 inch apart on greased cookie sheets. Reroll trimmings and continue to cut shapes. Bake 8 minutes, or until very lightly browned. Transfer cookies to racks to cool completely.

Our mobile home park has a Wednesday afternoon pot luck (Why the middle of the week I'll never understand!) & I make up a huge platter with various cookies including these! Big hit, even with the older residents! I used a dark molasses along with some homemade applesauce for a GREAT TASTING, VERY CHEWABLE TREAT! [Made & reviewed for one of my adopted orphans in the current Pick A Chef]
