Southern Green Beans & Bacon

"This is definitely an unhealthy old southern recipe that we continue to make for all large family gatherings. My oldest son (age 23) makes this when he goes to friends' homes. He said he's never had any left to bring home."

  1. This is wonderful. I've made it several times. We took it to a pot luck last night and it was eaten up. A commercial can of green beans is six pounds.

  2. Easy and tasty green beans! I cut the recipe down to 2 servings and really enjoyed this easy way to dress up canned beans - thanks for sharing the recipe! Made for the Best of 2010 Event (recommended by lazyme)

  3. Yummers! I can't believe that these haven't been reviewed before now. I cut the servings back to 1 can of beans and adjusted the rest of the ingredients accordingly. Great side dish! Thanks for sharing. Made for Bargain Basement Tag.

I'm a single mom of 2 boys (ages 15 & 23). I'm also an RN working in homecare. My favorite recipes are 1 pot dishes that are quick, although I don't mind spending extra time on weekends for those outstanding dishes. My biggest problem is that I'm one of those people who has a hard time cooking small. Even though there's only 2 of us (my oldest is away in the Navy), I still cook as though I'm cooking for 6. My family and friends love this and come by with their own casserole dish to load up and take home. I just started writing down my recipes... from much coersion from family & friends. I've always been a dump cook... adding and deleting items, depending on what's on hand.
