  1. Just made this with fresh BE peas, not dried, and my overabundance of okra. Indeed the okra stayed crisp, and the onions and pepper made the dish colorful. Still too bland for my tastes, i added hot sauce, but a diced jalapeno would have been great too. A different way to cook okra without always frying it, so thanks for the recipe, gertc96!

  2. I made these for New Year's Day. I really like the additions of the okra & cilantro. It made tasty additions to a pot of black eyed peas and they were colorful. I did stir in lots more cilantro. Thank you for sharing your recipe!

  3. These were pretty good for black eyed peas. :P We didn't put any pepper sauce in because of in-laws, but now that the leftovers are home, I'm going to douse it in Sriracha!!!!!

  4. Very interesting way to serve black-eyed peas! I really liked the combo of the peas and okra. I doubled the hot sauce (no little ones in my house). Next time I think I will cut back on the garlic though. Makes great leftovers!

  5. We love BE peas at our house and we also love okra so this recipe had my name written all over it! I will confess - I used bacon drippings to saute the onions and okra. Other than that, I followed your lead. When the onions were tender, the okra was crisp-tender so no slime was goin' on in this dish. The hot sauce amount was just right - enough to have a presence but not really hot. A great new twist on some of our favorite veggies. Thanks for sharing!
