I'm looking forward to making this recipe. Didn't remember this cake being offered by A & P but one just like this being available in vending machines. It was the best, moist cake I ever had. I remember when buying in the summer time I had to let it cool down from the warm vending machine so as not to pull off the yummy frosting. Years later the vending machine stopped making this cake available and instead substituted a carrot cake. NOT THE SAME....

Soaking the raisins in rum is excellent. A mix of golden and black raisins is very nice. Substituting craisins is also excellent (I soaked them in triple sec). The frosting is not really necessary and if you prefer a less sweet dessert you can omit it. It also works nicely with a simple lemon glaze (lemon juice + confectioners sugar) if you want a little sweet but not a lot. It works very nicely in a 9x13 pan, or an 8x8 if you halve the recipe. It also makes great cupcakes. Baking time for cupcakes was more like 25m.
