Questions & Replies

  1. I have been making this recipe for years but I cannot seem to conquer the icing to perfection. The chocolate chips and butterscotch chips are just fine bet when I add the butter the mixture seizes. I have tried everything from melting the butter first to softening the butter and adding it to the chocolate mixture. I feel like I have tried it all but apparently not. Two Christmases ago I gave up and left the butter out. I cannot keep the mixture from seizing once the butter touches it. Help! What am I doing wrong?

  1. My Mom made these for us as kids. It was a bit different since she used 1 c. sugar, 1 c. corn syrup, 3/4 c. peanut butter and only 3 c. Special K. She also put a tsp of vanilla in and used a whole package of semi sweet chips. I love these and want to make them today, but need to freeze some, or I''ll eat the whole pan. A tip that I use is, I put butter on my fingertips and after it cools, I use my fingers to spread in the pan.

  2. Super yummy! Made this with leftover cereal I had on hand (Wheaties & Crispix) and the family loved it. Followed a fellow reviewers idea to sprinkle chips over top then place in warm oven for 5 min. Spread easily and tasted great!

  3. My grandma has been making this for years and now I am making it all the time. It’s the one recipe I have memorized except I have never used butter in my dessert. Didn’t know you could! So I suppose it you’re trying to make this healthier just skip the butter. Also, more peanut butter (about an extra 1/3 or so) makes it creamier and sooo good!

  4. I have been making this recipe for 23 years, since I met my husband; it's his favorite treat!! Our recipe is nearly identical, except it doesn't include the sugar (and it's very sweet with just the peanut butter and corn syrup), or the butter (and again, the chocolate and butterscotch combination is very rich alone, and doesn't need the butter, too), and it is so delicious, such a treat for everyone who samples these bars. Thank you for posting the recipe. My husband wants me to make them again!

  5. Delicious cookies ! My dad used to make these for me when I was a kid back in the 1970's. Very addicting !
