Spicy Sausage, Mushroom, and Swiss Breakfast Casserole

  • Brown sausage in a skillet. Drain fat and set aside. Saute onions and mushrooms in butter until onion is tender. Mix in browned sausage.
  • Place bread in a 9x13 pan. Layer sausage mixture then cheese over the bread.
  • Mix eggs, milk, sourcream, salt and pepper.
  • Pour evenly over cheese. Cover and refrigerate 6-24 hours.
  • In the morning bake uncovered for 50-60 minutes at 325* or until lighly browned and egg is set.

  1. This was good. It was pretty bready, and there wasn't enough meat, so I may double the meat next time. It's similar to a recipe my mom makes that I always liked. Good stuff!
     
  2. Good stuff however next time I think I'll use a lb 1/2 of sausage 1 just wasn't quite enough for me. Very good though :)

  4. This is great! Even our grandson who hates mushrooms loved this (of course, he had a pile of mushrooms on the side of this plate!). But, everyone had at least seconds! Thanks akgrown for a great breakfast - in fact, we're going to make this for over night company this coming weekend.
     
  5. This is an excellent breakfast casserole. I did cut the recipe in half 8 servings is just too much for 2 people. This is a keeper.

I would recommend it to others and would definitely make again. 4 Stars - This recipe was good but I would change something in it next time. 3 Stars - This is a recipe I would not make again, but it was ok. 2 Stars - I would not make this recipe again and we didn't like it at all. 1 Star - This recipe did not work out or the taste was unappealing and I wouldn't make it again.
