  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cream together sugar, potato, shortening.
  3. Add eggs one at a time to mixture.
  4. Sift flour, cinnamon, nutmeh and salt.
  5. Add Baking soda to milk.
  6. Add wet and dry ingredients alternately to creamed mixture.
  7. Mix in walnuts.
  8. Pour in 2 8 in cakes pans that have been greased and floured.
  9. Frosting: Melt butter in saucepan.
  10. Stir in brown sugar.
  11. Cook low heat 2 minutes.
  12. Add milk and bring to full boil.
  13. Cool to lukewarm.
  14. Mix in enough confectioners sugar to spread easily on cake.
