"This sauce can be used on any number of things, though I find it pairs well with chicken or as a dipping sauce for meatballs. Cooking meatballs in this sauce, in fact, was how I first tried it. Outstanding!"

ingredients

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 celery ribs, finely chopped
1 medium carrot, grated
3 cups tomato puree
1 cup apple juice
¹⁄₂ cup brown sugar
¹⁄₄ cup lemon juice

directions

Heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions, celery, and carrot and cook until the onions and celery are soft (about 5 minutes).
Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Simmer for another five minutes or so, then sauce away!
