Stick Deodorant - Aluminum Free.

"Commercial deoderants' active ingredient is aluminum - which has been linkedy to alzheimer's. I haven't had a lot of luck with the natural aluminum free deoderants from the store - they don't seem to work well at all. Here's a recipe to make your own. The only thing you need is an empty container from regular deoderant. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This recipe is from http://www.littlehouseinthesuburbs.com/2009/03/quick-stick-deodorant.html"

directions

 • Mix all ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
 • Smash into empty deoderant container and smooth over.
 • Let it sit 1 day to become solid again.
 • Use with a lighter hand than you would with normal stick deodorant, especially the first couple of days or it'll drop little balls on your bathroom rug. Used correctly, this stuff is invisible and lasts for ages, as it works with a very light layer. You should not be able to see it once applied.

 1. So far so good! I haven't given this this the "working in the yard on a hot day" test yet, but it's passing the "working in the house on a cool day" test. The ratios seem perfect to me. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

 2. A very good recipe for homemade deodorant. 4 to 5 tablespoons of coconut oil is what I ended up using (4 tablespoons slightly rounded). A few reviewers mentioned that when it gets hot it melts. That would be the coconut oil. Since it's HOT out right now I keep it in the fridge. I also use arrowroot over cornstarch. Since I make soap and candles I have plenty of fragrance to play with. I used 5 drops of Oakmoss for my husbands "brand" and he loves it. Mine is Lavendar and Vanilla. Another reviewer mentioned a rash. You can lessen the amount of baking soda but a neat trick it to use a little aloe gel after you shave. Let it dry then apply your deodorant. Rash be gone.

 3. Baking soda/cornstarch/coconut oil deodorants work excellently to control odor (not wetness). However, I'm not giving this recipe 4 stars instead of 5 because there's waaaaay too little coconut oil. I've added 4 Tbsp. so far and it's not enough. I had to resort to YouTube to find a good recipe, which I was trying to avoid. Correct proportions are: 1/4 c. baking soda, 1/4 cup cornstarch, and 5-8 Tbsp. coconut oil. The mixture should become a consolidated, non-crumbling mass before scooping it into your container.

 4. I have been using this deodorant recipe for almost a year now and I love it. It does take a little while to get used to using it. I work in a kitchen so it gets really hot in the summer and this deodorant worked great even in that environment. I rarely had smelly pits lol.

I think this recipe would be a 5 star if it were a little more firm in the summer months. It gets very soft when it's hot and melts. Another con is that the oil in the deodorant discolors certain shirts temporarily but comes out when you wash it. It could potentially be embarrassing, though, as it looks like you have sweaty pit stains.

All in all this is the best recipe I've found so far and with only 4 ingredients it's hard to beat!

I didn't have any reaction to the baking soda as another review stated they did.

 5. This actually works really great to stop sweat and stink. HOWEVER, your skin may be sensitive to the baking soda. It's not affected me in other areas, but once used in this form, it made my skin red and itchy (didn't go away for over 5 days after stopping it). I am going to try reducing the bs and possibly upping the cornstarch to see if that works. The recipe I got elsewhere also uses 4 T oil and it still hardened up.
