  1. Mix dates and baking soda in heat proof bowl . Pour boiling water over top and let stand . cream butter and sugar together until pale , then add eggs one at a time , heating well . Gently fold in flour , stir in date mixture and pour into lightly buttered pan . bake in preheated oven@350 for 30-40 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean . combine sauce ingredients in a saucepan bring to boil , stirring and simmering for 5 minutes set aside when ready to serve reheat . cut pudding into squares and place each square into center of plate and pour hot toffee sauce over each square and serve with whipped cream . Enjoy.
