- 2 tablespoons low-sodium beef bouillon granules
- 1⁄4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon parsley flakes
- 1⁄8 teaspoon celery seed
- 1⁄8 teaspoon paprika
- 1⁄8 teaspoon pepper
directions
- Stir together.
- Use as a substitute for 1 envelope onion soup mix.

A different question. What can you substitute for the packet of seasoning used to make Chex mix? I'm gluten free & seasoning packets don't work for me. This recipe for onion soup looks great! Thank you!

I made this recipe twice in one week. The first time was to replace the soup mix in a casserole and it tasted fine. The second time, I tried it as a dip. It was ok, but I prefer the real deal for the dip. Definitely a great little recipe to us in a pinch and it is less salty tasting. Thanks Dee. -
I just omitted the celery seeds cause I couldn't find it and also I don't really like it :) I used it for recipe#420902 It was great. No need to buy onion soup mix. And also I never buy this cause DH has to watch his sodium intake. Thanks Chef Dee :) Made for I Recommend tag game -
Used minced dried onions but otherwise followed the recipe. Smells just like the packet kind, but I like that you can control the salt in it by using reduced sodium beef bouillon. Going to use this in recipe#312628. Made for I Recommend Tag. -
Excellent substitute recipe that worked perfectly in my recipe for Pot Roast. I am going to keep a container of this handy from now on. Loved that the sodium is so reduced in this recipe compared to commercial mixes. I can't wait to make French Onion Dip with it too. Thanks for sharing a great addition to our pantries. Excellent substitute for onion soup mix.....hope the reduced sodium amount is really true! The mixes are just loaded with it. This turned out wonderfully in a recipe,.....haven't tried it on its on as a soup. Thank for sharing!

Perfect for use in my pot roast recipe. Actually made a better roast than the Lipton soup mix. Used better than bouillon instead of granules. Was afraid it might be too salty, but wasn't despite not having reduced sodium type. I think I will use this every time now! -
Great recipe. I used 2 tsp of beef Better than Bouillon instead of the granules as we avoid MSG and has worked well in every recipe I've used it in.
