  • Blend shortening and cocoa together.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  • Pour into a greased 9x9 pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

  1. I was dissappointed in this recipe. When I tasted the batter, it was bitter tasting. I had to add a bananna and a couple tsp sugar.
     
  2. I wasn't so enthusiastic about these at first, but they grew on me. I like fudgy, dense brownies, and these were very light and cakey. Not horrible, but not my style. I rated them three stars because I added 1/4 cup honey, an extra 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/8 tsp salt. For denser brownies, I would probably add a little oil, change the baking powder for soda, and lessen the flour a bit- on top of my previous alterations. Better luck next time. I think I'll try #77330.
     
  3. my recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar to be in here other wise its the same and the frosting was 3/4 cup sugar 3 tablespoons milk and 3tablespoons butter bring to boil add 1/2 cup choclate chips and spread on brownies very old newspaper clipping from mrs reuban benson in newman grove ne
     
  4. i liked this recipe, but instead of mixing the shortening and cocoa together....I found it easier to bend the shortening with the eggs first and then adding the rest of the ingredients...jennie
