Sunflower Seed & Garlic Spread

"This was derived from having a mega bunch of sunflower seeds. I love spreads and pastes to add flavor. If you want more garlic, feel free to add more. I use on toast points, rub on chicken, crackers. It is a good rub for baked pork chops."

  • Put all ingredients into a blender and pulse 4 or 5 times.
  • Thanks to a nice reviewer, here are suggestions if you want the spread to be easier to spread. Add 1 tblsp. olive oil and 1 tblsp water more, then a little more before processing.
  • Note: Suggested heating the olive oil,(a total of 3 tblsp. olive oil) setting it aside with the garlic cloves in it will reduce the garlic flavor and make it more mild.
  • Put in a small covered airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Note: If you use unsalted sunflower seeds,.
  • add 1/2 teaspoons salt or 1/2 teaspoons salt substitute.
  • Note: The longer it is stored, the more intense flavor.

  1. I made this a few days ago and followed the suggestion for adding 6 Tbsp. of water and more oil. That helped the processing and spreadability of this a great deal. I also thought it needed something flavorwise, so I added some cajun seasoning. The cajun seasoning melded the flavors perfectly. This makes a great sandwich with lettuce and tomato. I'll be making it again.

  2. I've made this spread 3 times now! It is a delicious, easy and filling snack. I would however like to add a couple of suggestions to make this recipe easier for those interested...Add an additional 2 tablespoons of olive oil and about 6 tablespoons of water or else you won't be able to process it. Another way to make the garlic taste a little less pungent is to heat the olive oil in a pan until it is warm, take oil off the stove, and then let the cloves soak in the oil for a couple of hours. Your spread will still have a tasty garlicky flavor, but it will be a bit more mild.

<p>My husband & I built our dream home after our children were raised. We didn't hire a contractor, we pounded every nail and board and shingle on it.I have lots of stories to tell about that adventure. My passion is cooking, my grandchildren and living each day like it were my last. I love to drive the big rigs. I lived all over the world for a time and collected dolls and cookbooks. I write poetry. My other passions are the outdoors, country living, the sunrises and sunsets,to give to others more than I receive as it says in the Bible. As I get older I am less judgemental.I hope I have helped someone each and every day. Every day is an adventure! <br /><br />Event Participation! <br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/adoptedspring08.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket /> <img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PAC08Main.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket /> <br /><br /><img src=http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/DUCHESS13/RSC%20Banners/RSC11-SueL-FirstPlace.jpg alt= /> <br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Adopted1smp.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket /> <img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/smPACp.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket /> <br /><br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/beartag_1_1.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting /> <img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/adopted_1_1.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting /> <br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/200_artistrichardneuman-art-prints_.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting /> <img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/untitled.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting /></p>
