directions

  • Mix the cream cheese, horseradish, garlic, salt and pepper together until well blended.
  • Lay the pastrami slices on a flat surface and spread a small amount of the cheese mixture on each pastrami slice. Cut the pastrami slices into approximately 1" by 3" strips or similar depending on the size you purchase from your delicatessen so that when rolled they will be bite size pieces.
  • Cut a small piece of green leaf curly lettuce to fit one side of the small end of each pastrami piece; place it on the cream cheese mixture so that when rolled a small portion of the curly leaf lettuce is extended over the pastrami.
  • Roll up the pastrami strip from the opposite end of the lettuce and secure with a toothpick. You should have a roll of pastrami with the leaf lettuce extended. Place on a serving plate and sprinkle with freshly cracked pepper and serve.

  1. Very nice and so quick and easy. Everyone seemed to enjoy them. For my own taste I would like to try a bit more horseradish next time but they really are good as they are. Thanks for sharing this delightful little creation.

  2. Super easy! Super delicious! Everyone loved them at my cocktail party. It was the first Hors d'oeuvre to disappear. Thank you so much. Will def be making again.

  3. These were tasty and pretty! I took them to a football tailgate party, and they were all gone...and I doubled the recipe!

  4. I made these for a ladies night at my house. There wasn't a single one left over. A huge hit! I just love the addition of horseradish in the cream cheese. I have some other recipes that I'm going to try with that combination I really liked it.

  5. Very impressive looking appetizer and tastes wonderful too. The cream cheese mixture has just the right snappy flavor that works well with the pastrami and lettuce. Perfect for an appetizer party where you need something just a little different from all the rest.

Tweaks

  1. Very good appetizer that's also so easy to make. The only change that I made was adding a few dashes of chili garlic hot sauce instead of horseradish sauce into the cream cheese mixture. They were delicious! Will make them again.

  2. These really were not to my taste or my guests. The lettuce really was not what I expected texture wise, so I switched to canned asparagus about half way through making them. Also, while I really liked the cream cheese mixture, esp. with the asparagus, the turkey pastrami was way too salty and not appetizing in this combination. I did use a brand of turkey pastrami that I like and use often so it wasn't the brand's fault. I would love this with turkey or ham instead.
