Sweet and Sassy Mixed Nuts

- 1⁄4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3⁄4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 egg white
- 3 1⁄2 cups mixed nuts (I use deluxe mixed nuts with no peanuts)
- 1⁄2 cup dried cranberries
directions
- Preheat oven to 300°F and prepare baking sheet. I like to line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper, but you can grease your pan if you like.
- Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and cayenne, set aside.
- In a bowl large enough to accommodate nuts, whisk the egg white; add nuts, cranberries, sprinkle with sugar mixture and toss to coat. Spread onto prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown, stirring once. Cool completely.
- Store in an airtight container up to a week.

Very nice. I used a mixture of cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts (my favourite) and brazil nuts. I'm going to be cooking them again for Christmas and packaging them up in nice glass jars with ribbons as gifts for the savoury-lovers. Very easy to make! Personally, I'd add more cayenne when cooking them for me (I like the heat) but the amount stated in the recipe is perfect for people who aren't so keen on having their mouths blown away.<br/>I might try with quartered dried apricots next time to add some more fruitiness. I don't think the cranberries really added anything, since they dried up too much. Sultanas would have been very similar and a lot cheaper.<br/>Generally, good stuff though, thanks for the recipe!

Brooke, these nuts are soooooo good!!!! They are easy to make, very beautiful to look at and the tase is superb! They are sweet, but not overly so and the cinnamon adds a lovely warmth to them. The cranberries' fruity taste is a nice addition to the earthy flavour from the nuts and the cayenne adds an unexpected kick and makes the nuts special! I made the recipe for my mum's bday party and all the guests raved about them. They were amazed that something as tasty as this was home-made and wanted to have the recipe, which I happily shared. :) THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your wonderful recipe with us! <br>I have been a member of Zaar for awhile now and found that I love it! I have tried so many recipes and many new foods that I never would have without Zaar.

<br>I work full-time at a university in Wisconsin, it allows me to travel a bit and see the rest of the state, I work with a lot a great people and am really happy in my job.
<br>
<br>When I'm not working, I spend time with my hubby and 12 year old son. My son has picked up my love for cooking, a few of the things he makes are - naan bread, cookies, and quick breads, I'm so proud of him! In our family we also have two cocker spaniels, our puppy Laci (above) and Peanut, that we adore like they were our children.

<br>We live in an old farm house that we are remodeling (did the library and the kitchen so far....) on the outskirts of town. Close enough where my hubby can bike to work in the summer, but far enough away from campus that we don't have to lock down our lawn ornaments in fear of college pranks!
