directions

  • For the chicken:

  • Place brown sugar, soy sauce, sake or sherry, and garlic in a large resealable plastic bag and stir to combine.
  • Add chicken, seal (pressing out excess air), and turn the bag to coat the chicken evenly.
  • Place in the refrigerator and marinate, turning occasionally, for at least 2 hours or up to 12 hours.
  • Heat the broiler to high and arrange a rack in the middle of the oven. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a wire rack over the foil.
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess drip off, and arrange in a single layer on the rack. (Try not to let the wings touch.) Discard the marinade.
  • Broil the chicken until the meat starts to pull away from the bones and the skin is a deep golden brown, bubbling, and crisped, about 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and, using tongs, flip the wings over. Return to the oven and continue broiling until the skin is a deep golden brown, bubbling, and crisped on the second side, about 12 minutes more.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the sauce.
  • For the sauce:

  • Place all ingredients except cornstarch-water mixture in a small saucepan and stir to combine.
  • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer until sauce has reduced to about 1/2 cup, about 10 minutes.
  • Add cornstarch mixture, whisk to combine, and cook until sauce has thickened, about 1 minute.
  • Transfer to a large heatproof bowl.
  • To serve:

  • Add cooked wings to the sauce and toss to combine.
  • Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

  1. Yummy wings!!! I like the buffalo wings, as long as they aren't too spicy, but really love wings like this recipe, so good!! I made 1 lb of wings and made 1/3 of the marinade and sauce, which worked out well. Loved the flavor of the wings, along with the crispy skin. Next time I will cook these wings on the grill, it really smoked up my house from the high broiling and fat from the skin of thee wings, but all is fine now with opening the windows and airing out the house. Definite repeat recipe for us!! Thanks so much for sharing such a tasty recipe Alli. Made for Everyday is a Holiday Tag Game.

  2. Best wings I have had in a very long time -- I could definitely skip those buffalo-style wings or maybe make a batch of each. Loved the flavors and the fact that they are broiled and not fried. DH has eaten so many, I have lost count. These babies are going into my Best of 2013 Cookbook. This is my first completion for the New Year and it is definitely a winner of a recipe! Made for Everyday is a Holiday tag, January, 2013.

  3. Alligirl you have a winner here for sure. I scaled it back for 8 wings but it wasn't till after I am reviewing I realized the weight issue of the wings - mine weiged nearly 1.4K before I cut of the tips (just over 3lb - ours must be jumbos) that I should have made the full recipe but it was still very delicious. I did bake them in the oven rather that grill/broil at 175C fan forced for about 45 minutes for succulent crispy wings. Thank you alligirl, made for Everyday A Holiday.

  4. Excellent! Wonderful flavor with the combination of sweet and tangy. I have wings every Saturday night and these will be in the rotation. Thanks for posting such a wonderful wing recipe. Made for the ALL YOU CAN COOK BUFFET - SPECIAL EVENT!

  5. Awesome wings!!! I never bother making them at home because they are invaribly deep fried and I don't go there :) I marinated them for about 4 hours which seemed perfect to me. The sauce is TDF and I'm sorry I didn't make a triple or quadruple batch of it to use on other chicken pieces or pork chops or ribs or...... LOL Great recipe. Thanks for posting.<br/>Made for Food.Commandos ~ ZWT 7

Someone special recently gifted me with membership ~ I don't know who, but know they are special :D! Thank you! It is much appreciated.... My parents owned a grocery store when I was growing up, so there's my love of FOOD! My friends all love to drink, so there's my profession! I stopped bartending 5 years ago, when my son was born, but still 'do' private parties. DH and I did a 'Supper Club' for a while, but life kept getting in the way! I am a SAHM, to a rambunctious 5 y.o....I LOVE cooking and collect cookbooks and anything kitchen related! I'm kinda picky, but will just drop an ingredient or make a sub, so I can still try a recipe. I'm looking forward to many years of enjoyment here, and hope to participate in some events soon!
