Sweetened Condensed Milk Substitute
"I found this on ochef.com. According to them, recipes using dried (powdered) milk approximate the texture but not the flavor of true sweetened condensed milk, and the following recipe tastes much better. - 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 1⁄4 cups sugar
directions
- Combine ingredients in a saucepan.
- Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved; cool.
- May be refrigerated for several days.

If you wanted to thicken this recipe, would addings some cornstarch be appropriate, or would this change the flavor?

I love using this. It is a great substitute and so much cheaper than going to the store to get it. I use a lot of this during the Christmas season making my cookies and bars. I have this in a safe place so I know where it is at all times! -
This is the one to use! I made it because I was in a pinch and didn't want to go to the store, but I will definately do it again...much less expensive than the canned version. Thanks you! -

Hi .. The pic is of my beautiful son, born on 2/5/2005. His name is Tariq, meaning Bright Star. As I type this, he is blowing bubbles in his water cup and watching cartoons. He whined to get this water for 15 mins and now he won't drink it, he will only play with it. Sigh..
