Sweetie Pie's Mac and Cheese

"This recipe was given to me by a coworker Becky. So first of all I want to thank her. It is a special Mac and Cheese that she gave to everyone in our department and I have never tasted anything like this before."

Questions & Replies

  1. I followed the direction for the ingredients and mixed everything up, cooked a 16oz box of elbow macaroni, but it’s too much to fit in a 9x13 and also there seems to be too much mix in the bowl for the macaroni. Do I not use all the mixture?

  2. Your ingredients call for 3 eggs but if you watch the Guy Fieri vidéo of the lady making her recipe she uses 5 eggs. Which is correct?

  3. The cheese turned out grainy

  4. Can I put this all together and bake the next day?

  5. Can this be made and heated in a crockpot in lieu of baking it in the oven?

Reviews

  1. FYI This is not a review, as I will be trying this recipe for a tailgate party next Saturday, but a heads up. In the video from DDD Sweetie Pie used 2 tbsp. of SOUR CREAM as well in the recipe & that ingredient has been omitted from some of the websites that posted her recipe. Sour cream definitely adds that certain something to a lot of things so its a step I wouldn't leave out, especially if you want to make her signature dish.

  2. made the mistake of following another review where they suggested no evap milk and cut back on the cheese .......let me tell you ....Follow the recipe as written ....its a 5 star as written or a 2 star with the modifications

  3. A really terrific pot luck dish, although I recommend a 15 x 10 pan, rather than the 13 x 9 stated in the recipe.

  4. I made this for our community pot luck and everyone raved about it. Last week an elderly lady from the complex came up to my apartment and told me she was having a pot luck tomorrow and would I bring that "wonderful" Macaroni & Cheese. I've never been asked to a pot luck solely so I could bring a dish, but I suppose there is a first time for everything. <br/>Sweetie Pie's version of Macaroni and Cheese is a lot like what my Mother used to make. My Grandmother and my Mother are from the South and she's the only one that I know of, that made it this way.

  5. Thanks Chef #1800118644 - I added the sour cream like Sweetie Pie did and it was wonderful!

Tweaks

  1. This is excellent. I have been searching for a mac and cheese recipe and this one is it. It is fantastic. Here are my suggestions: Substitute evaporated milk for a total of three cups of milk. Put this in a dutch oven with the eggs and cheeses (except for the mild cheddar). Cook on med/low until melted and well blended. Add the sour cream (2T) and sugar. Taste the SO DELICIOUS! I always get asked to bring this to a gathering.

  2. This was gross and greasy. One stick of butter would have been sufficient. The velveeta taste overpowered the other cheeses. I suggest doubleing the colby and sharp cheeses and adding a block of cream cheese instead of sour cream.
