T. O. H. Fudgy Buttons [ Kid Cook Safe]

"All you have to do is melt the butter and let the kid go to town making the buttons. To explain, I have sort of defatted it for our use. However here is the Taste Of Home version. It all started when I wanted some fudge and I can't make fudge worth a hoot. I used Peanut Butter extract instead of the real thing. As good as my version is, I am betting this one is better. Not going to be the most glorious thing you ever made, but I bet the kid will be proud of it. Note I added a drop of vanilla to mine."

directions

  • Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave or in a small saucepan on top of the stove. Note the T.O.H recipe insists on only using butter.
  • If using saucepan remove from the heat.
  • Add cocoa and mix well. Stir in sugar. Add milk and stir until smooth. Add peanut butter and mix well.
  • Drop by teaspoonsful onto wax paper.
  • Flatten tops and shape into 1-inch patties.
  • Refrigerate until serving.
  • note mine must be chilled to get the right texture but of course I just may be rushing things along.
  • Also if it starts to get too thick you can add a bit more milk but do so carefully. It will cause problems with it setting up right. I would add by 1/8 teaspoons Stir see if it helps if not then add the next 1/8 [like adding liquid to baking mixtures] It will also help a child understand about adding.

  1. This was super easy for my 4 year old to make! She helps often in the kitchen, but was so excited that this was the first recipe she could make herself. :) We used a small cookie scoop (melon-ball size) to portion, so they were bigger than recommended and we got 12 instead of 18. My only regret is not making double or triple the recipe. We'll have to make another batch tomorrow cause they are all gone & daddy's not home to try them yet! :) Thanks for posting, Phil! Made for Let's P-A-R-T-Y event.

  2. These are awesome! So very easy to make too. It only took me about 10 minutes (if so much) to whip up a batch of these. I melted the butter in the microwave and proceeded from there. The "dough" is very easy to work with and is not messy at all to roll into balls. I then flattened them on the wax paper and stuck them in the fridge immediately. I can see why these need to be in the fridge. They start to get softer as soon as you let them sit outside for a couple minutes. Definitely double or even triple the batch cause it is so hard to stop at just one! Very quick and easy snack when you want something sweet.

  3. I thought these had a great taste! I used honey peanut butter (all I had) and I thought the flavor was good. I made this batch as a suprise for my kiddos, but they were excited that I told them this is a recipe that they could cook!

  4. "My mouth just wants more and more", was my 5 yr. old DGD's comment after she tasted these. She was also very proud that she was pretty much able to make these herself. We followed the recipe exactly. It is simple enough so it held her interest and it gave her good measuring practice. The only "problem" we had was that the mixture became thick and difficult for her to stir by herself, so I had to take over that part of it. All in all a fun and very tasty recipe! Thanks for the keeper, philocrates!!!

  5. I made these for my husband and he ate just about all of them when he got home from work. This recipe is worth doubling! I got 19 out of the first batch. Thanks!

AND that is the end of this. If the phone doesn't ring? It's me. If you are looking to ask me a question? I'm not here. I won't answer. I do not assure you that the ingredients, amounts or even the directions in any recipe under my two accounts are correct due to the bad directional pointer in the database that is causing problems with the amounts or ingredients. I will also NOT assure you they are correct when the site claims they are fixed. Use at your own risk. They will be correct on my site. End of story. Sigh..
