  1. This is an absolute kid pleaser!! My daughter was back for seconds before I got to the table! The only change I made was to use a whole jar of chunky salsa instead of the tomato paste. I served with sour cream. Excellent recipe!

  2. I just noticed this had a 2 star rating by me??? Was that a slip or what?? This certainly was a 5 star plus!! Sorry Inez

  3. WOW, this was great! Dh is pretty picky and he actually said it was wonderful. I didn't add onions, olives, or tomatoes, but it was still GREAT and EASY!!!!! Thanks!!

  4. Made this for DH and DS...both loved it..son had 3 helpings! I omitted the onion, olives and tomatoes (picky eaters they are!) but it was still a winner in our house. TY

  5. I thought this was great!! And so simple to put together.....this might replace regular tacos at my house! I served it with shredded lettuce and taco sauce to put over the top!

Tweaks

  1. This recipe was great. I used tortilla chips instead of taco shells. I didn't use the tomato and I used chopped olives in place of green olives. I just made this recipe for the sixteenth time, but instead of using the taco seasoning packet you buy at the store I used the homemade taco seasoning recipe #166030. This recipe was good before, but using the homemade seasoning made it even more outstanding. I used 1/2 cup of the homemade seasoning in place of the store bought packet. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Not sure why I didn't think of making something like this before! It was great. I was looking for a recipe to use up some ground turkey and this was a great way. The main changes I made were that I used salsa instead of tomato sauce, I added a chopped onion to the turkey, and I added a layer of brown rice to bulk it up some. Next time I think I'll add some black beans as well. My picky husband said I could make this one again, so that's saying something!

  3. This was just ok for me. The taste was good but I felt like it was missing something. I did add rotel tomatoes & black olives but I think if I made it again I might also add diced peppers or jalepenos and substitute hot sauce for the tomato sauce. Just needed a bit more zip and a bit more substance.

  4. This was very good and the kids loved it. I used ground turkey instead of beef and chunky salsa instead of the tomato sauce just to sneak in a few extra veggies. I also substituted sliced black olives for the green, just a personal preference. I personally didn't care for the taco shells because they were a little on the chewy side but no one else complained. I thought the tomato wedges on top added a nice flavor and they looked pretty with the olives. I served with a little sour cream on top. This will go on the list of easy weeknight meals and will certainly be made again.

  5. I've made this three times and can't believe I forgot to rate it! The kids can't get enough of this (nor can we adults!!) I did make some changes, I added a can of refried beans to the hamburger, a few handfuls of diced tomatoes with jalapenos with the juice squeezed out, 1 can of black beans- rinsed and drained, 1 tsp of garlic, 1 can of corn- rinsed and drained and cumin to taste. I used 3 green onions chopped, and either a jar of salsa or mild enchilada sauce instead of the tomato sauce. I also used Hot and spicey taco seasoning mix as we like things spicey. As the kids say...this is a BOMB recipe and I recommend it to anyone looking for something filling and different. Thanks for posting this great recipe.

After DH and I moved away from the farm, and to the city...I haven't done as much cooking and very little canning. But I do come to Zaar and look for new recipes once in a while. I'm still cooking Zaar!! I like to play at Facebook, with my family and friends. A lot of my Zaar friends are there!! Yay! It's a good way to keep in touch. We travel more. We're looking at the European trips now. Hope to go in the springtime. I really want to see London, I think I lived there in a past life, I've been obsessed with it since I was 10 years old!!
