Tender Pork Chops in Gravy

"I'm posting this as a reply to someone who was looking for tender pork chops without using a crock pot. I've had this recipe for so long, probably even before there WERE crock pots! (BTW - this recipe can also be made in a crock pot.)"

directions

 • Brown pork chops in frying pan. I like to sprinkle with seasoned salt, seasoned pepper and a small amount of garlic salt when browning.
 • Remove from pan and place in casserole dish.
 • Mix brown gravy mix, soup, and water.
 • Place potatoes and onion around pork chops; cover all with gravy mixture.
 • Season with salt and pepper.
 • Cover and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender.

Questions & Replies

 1. Can I not use can of mushroom and just follow the recipe as follows or will I need to make adjustments?

 2. Can I cook this in the Crockpot?

Reviews

 1. This recipe suggests 30 minutes prep time--it sure didn't take me that long, especially when using unpeeled smaller red potatoes (cut up). I'm still not a big fan of recipes using creamed soups, but this one does taste good and makes almost an entire meal--very convenient when time or effort is short. While those three submitted photos look nice and clean, my gravy bubbled over in the oven. You might want to put something underneath the casserole dish. Thanks, Claudia.

 2. This came out sooo good! I did make a couple of changes to the recipe, but nothing big. After reading some of the reviews and knowing how salty packaged gravy can be, I omitted the garlic salt and used garlic powder instead. I didn't have any brown gravy, so I used herbed gravy. Pretty much the same as brown gravy with some extra spices. I also added cut up carrots. It came out great! So tender and yummy, my family loved it!

 3. So simple but soooo good! I made the recipe as directed using cream of celery soup. I couldn't believe how good this was.

 4. Delicious! I used Merlot wine in replacement for the water and also used cream of chicken soup instead of cream of mushroom soup. The end result was boneless pork loin chops that were so tender that you didn't even need to use a knife to cut them! Even my picky kids went back for more gravy! I will be making this easy recipe often!

 5. This is a great meal, in one! I add carrotts and used french onion soup instead of cream of anything, and it was a winner with everyone! My daughter complained pof the pork chops always being to dry, well not this one! It is so moist, and the veggies so flavorful. I am going to make it again tonite and add some cabbage, well see how it turns out! This is a wonderful dinner, since you have veggies, meat, and gravy all in one!

Tweaks

 1. The only thing I tweaked were the seasonings. I just seasoned it to my taste. :)

 5. This recipe is super easy and inexpensive to make, and it tastes great!! I have a very picky husband, and even he loved it. Yay! The only change that I made was to use pork gravy instead of brown gravy. Very tasty. :-)

I live in Northern Indiana with my husband of 37 years and best friend, Evan. Due to unfortunate circumstances and God's grace, we are raising our two beautiful grandchildren from our daughter, Chris, who lost her battle with breast cancer after a hard, four year battle. It is a responsibility that I do not take lightly. God has blessed us with these kids and it is an honor to be able to raise them. That's not to say, it's easy. Organization is the key. We do lots of meal planning and advance preparation.

Evan & I enjoy eating out at fine restaurants and then trying to re-create gourmet meals at home. Unfortunately (?) we are such good cooks that we are usually disappointed when eating out because we know that what we prepare tastes better (and less expensive). Therefore, we usually only order something that we haven't made at home.

We love to cook together and spend many hours cooking for family and friends. Quite honestly, Evan is the better cook in the family. He has a knack for knowing what flavors and spices blend well together and has created many original creations.

I love to find and try out new recipes - which is why I visit Recipezaar often. We've added many of your shared recipes to my public cookbook titled Permanent Edition. I only post recipes that are our favorites and feel that others will enjoy them. I look for ease of preparation AND outstanding flavor. If I post a recipe that's a little more work, it's because the end result deserves the extra effort.

If we had a month off with no work, no responsibilities, and no financial issues; we'd spent time on the ocean in Oregon. My husband grew up in Seattle and spent summers at Cannon Beach (Oregon). I've only been there twice but absolutely love the area.

src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PACfall08partic.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket>
