  • Combine shortening, sugar, molasses and egg and beat throughly.

  • Gradually add flour mixture to shortening mixture.
  • Cover and chill for 1 hour.
  • Roll into 1 inch bals and roll in granulated sugar.

  • Bake at 325 for 8 minutes **very important not to over bake or else they won't be soft!**.

  1. Excellent, easy recipe. Tastes a lot like Archway soft molasses cookies. Very quick to make. I increased the cinnamon, plus I added a pinch of allspice.

  2. these are so yummy! pretty easy too! the only thing i would like to say is for us who aren't into baking as much and may not know- the cookies need to be soft (i mean, really soft- like they are still undercooked) or else they will harden after they come out. I am not a baker , and didn't know that cookies naturally harden a little after they come out of the oven... that being said, they are still good- just harder than intended!! great recipe!

  3. Good cookies. But I waaay overcooked them (it just seemed too wet inside otherwise). They turned out to be perfectly acceptable ginger snap-like cookies.

I like baking fun treats way more than cooking an actual meal! My favorite things to make are muffins, cookies and pancakes. Since joining Zaar I've been making awesome meals. I can't believe I'm marinating and grilling and cooking like never before! My rating system: ***** - Fabulous! I loved it, everyone here loved it, and we can't wait to make it again! A keeper and a recipe I'd recommend. **** - Nice recipe! 'Good' as opposed to 'great', but still worth making again! *** - Not so hot. We didn't love it, but maybe it was just because of our palates. Won't make again, but not because there was something wrong with the recipe. ** - Disappointing. Something's not right, or turned out really bad or hardly edible. * - Does this recipe need to be proof read? I think something was missing or there was a typo because this recipe is totally un-useable.
