The Most Famous Arabian Beverage - Qahwa

"This is "THE MOST" famous after-dinner drink here in the Sultante of Oman. It's really light and is served in traditional Omani homes in a golden/silver jug on a straw mat. I once had a beautiful experience sipping this beverage in a traditional Omani home that had in it this most well-knit family who served from their soul; this is one experience and one drink I always hold close to my heart :)"

  1. 4 1/2 stars with way more sugar, more water as some evaporates and as a preference less simmering time when the tea (I used Lipton Yellow Label tea bags) is in the water but the rest of the ingredients besides garnish can simmer 15 minutes for us. I like the slivered blanched almonds in this of which I used blanched and slivered store bought ones rather than making my own, which was OK. NOTE: Qahwa is coffee in Arabic not tea but I see what happened, "qahwah (also spelled qehwa, kehwa or kahwa) is a traditional green tea recipe that originates from Kashmir. It is made in parts of Kashmir administered by Pakistan and India, as well as throughout various regions of the countries." Wikipidia. There is a lot of Indian influence in Oman. I may make this again.

  2. "Qahwa" means coffee. What you are describing is flavored tea. Qahwa contains coffee and cardamom, some people add saffron, some add milk, and some add cloves. I have not tried your recipe, so I will not rate it. However, I thought you should know that this is not Qahwa.

  3. What you're referring to is Kashmiri tea. In Oman, qahwa is coffee, not tea. Please don't confuse the two.

  4. Qahwa is tea in Kashmir, India too. It is a delicate tea made by boiling water with cardamom, cinnamon, saffron, sugar and almonds but they don't use black tea leaves like this recipe.

  5. Najwa is right "Qahwa" is coffee in arabic and comonly refered a to national drink made from specail cofee semi milled cardamom and saffron and served with dates. Qahwa is drunk in every home in saudi n the gulf daily.
