1. How long does this last in the fridge? I would like to double or triple the recipe if possible.

 2. Can it be bottled and kept without refrigeration? Can a preservative be used and if yes which one?

 3. Can you use white wine vinegar

 4. Can you use Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise?

 5. how do you make it sweeter, and not include the onions?

 1. This is the best recipe! I've made it several times and haven't purchased bottled thousand island dressing since.
HERE IS A TIP:
The first thing I do is dissolve the sugar completely in the vinegar. That way I don't have to wait several hours for the sugar to dissolve while in the refrigerator. Mine is ready to go as soon as I make it. :)

 2. Wow, I am so glad that I ran out of salad dressing! I made a huge green salad for dinner topped with shrimp, tomatoes, avocado and sliced hard boiled eggs - and then realized I had only greek dressing in the fridge. This might have been okay in a pinch, but this dressing made it awesome! I left out the sugar, because the relish gave just the right amount of sweetness. One of the best salads I have ever had (if I do say so myself)!!

 3. Better than store bought! Thanks for sharing. BTW, you can substitute the white vinegar with white balsamic vinegar and leave out the sugar!

 4. We don't use 1,000 island dressing for salads, but I just made this for Reuben sandwiches. I left out the sugar because I thought it was sweet enough with the sweet pickle relish. I will make again when the food occasion calls for it. I can't remember the last time I bought bottled dressing. It's so easy to make your own with ingredients in your fridge and spice cupboard.

 5. Made this for my Dad who has eaten 1000 Island dressing for 40 years. He said, "Spot on!" The next time I made it I added a healthy squirt of Siracha...Yum! Update 6.2.18: it's hard to find good sugar free dressings. I made a Low Carb version of this dressing using substitutions of Heinz low sugar ketchup, Mt Olive sugar free sweet relish, and Truvia. It was very good. I have used 'mother' apple cider vinegar sometimes, as well. It changes the flavor slightly but has a good vinegar zingy 'bite' .

Tweaks

 1. No sugar or salt. Dill pickle relish instead of sweet.

 2. Yes, you will stop buying bottled dressing immediately as soon as you try this! It's so tasty and easy, and I don't know why I haven't done it before. It's easy to already have these ingredients in your kitchen.

 3. I omitted the vinegar and just added more sweet pickle relish and a squirt of dijon mustard. Yum!

 4. For a low-sodium option...... I used Heinz low-sodium Ketchup, and omitted the salt. The result is WONDERFUL - Finally, a Thousand Island dressing I can eat on my heart-friendly diet!

 5. Made this in two minutes flat. Used red onion instead of white and sea salt instead of salt. Was amazing. No more store bought. Fantastic taste for my crab salad in a hot summer night!
