Three Packs and a Roast

"If you are trying to cut your food cost this is a great and tasty way to do it. I always buy the cheapest beef roast I can to do this with. Yes, it is also the toughest cut but after cooking in the crockpot all day, it is very good and tender. Put the gravy on some mashec potatoes, or spoon over cornbread muffins. OOh Yeah..."

  1. The flavor of this roast was delish! The roast, however, did turn out a bit dryer than im used to. but then again I ended up cooking it on high due to a time crunch. Will definatly make this again! thanks for posting!

  2. I make this recipe all the time, and shared it with our recipe group -- who all went nuts about it. This works with roasts up to 3.5 lbs -- any larger and you'll need more spices. It can be done with any cut of beef, and I never use water. I do it with veggies, too, and it turns out fantastic. I got this orginally as a pressure cooker roast recipe -- it works great in both.

  3. Great roast! Very simple. Comes out with a really good flavor, good gravy. My kids love it. This is now the consistent pot roast recipe in our house. Thanks!

  4. This recipe is awesome! I love roast with veggies, or just the roast alone. This makes for the best gravy ever! Thank you so much for posting this flavorful jewel. I drank the leftover juice it was so good!!

  5. This is so good and flavorful! Was very juicy and the mix of seasonings was perfect. I used beef broth instead of water like some others suggested. Shredded up and served as sandwiches. Will make again since it contains ingredients I always have on hand.

  2. OMG so so good. The best roast we have ever had. I had to make a few changes based on what I had on hand. I only had half a pack of ranch dressing mix and I didn't have a italian salad dressing but did have a pasta dressing mix - fairly similar. I also used beef stock instead of water. We also served this over this chef's cornbread - so good and a great new way to eat roast and gravy. Thanks!

I am a single mother, who lives on a small farm. I like to read, cook and garden. I have spent most of this summer canning. I have 37 tomate plants in the garden. So I am looking for new ways to put them up. I collect cook books and currently have over two hundred. I am not afraid to try new things and will try anything once. I often whip up something that in theory sounds good in my head. Take a recipe and put a new twist on it. One of my favorite books is a 1947 copy of Farmers Canning and preserving cook book. Found it at a yard sale for a quarter. Have gotten my money out of it a thousand times over.
