  1. Cream together butter and sugar.
  2. Add egg yokes, vanilla and salt; mix well.
  3. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups flour.
  4. Shape into 3/4" balls.
  5. Dip into beatten egg whites, roll into finely chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans or pistachios).
  6. place on greased cookie sheet (if using egg whites and nuts).
  7. press center with thumb.
  8. bake at 350 15-17 minutes.
  9. cool slightly, add jam.
