  1. BASE:
  2. Cream shortening and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
  3. Add salt and 1 cup sifted flour.
  4. Mix until crumbly.
  5. Place in a well greased 7 x 11 inch pan.
  6. Bake in 325 degree Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes.
  7. TOPPING:
  8. While base if baking, mix 2 Tablespoons flour, baking powder, salt, and eggs.
  9. Add brown sugar.
  10. Gradually add vanilla.
  11. Add nuts and coconut.
  12. Pour over partially baked base.
  13. Return to 325 degree Fahrenheit oven for 25 minutes.
  14. Cut into bars.
  15. Yield depends on size of cuts.
