  1. My new potatoes were a little large and my cherry tomatoes really small - I would use more tomatoes next time or perhaps the grape tomatoes. I also probably doubled the herbs at least, added some lovage which adds a slightly bitter counterpoint that works really well with the other ingredients. I also halved my potatoes when adding them to the butter, just to help them absorb more of the herby goodness of the sauce. So delicious!

  3. I tried these based on Bird and Wigal's recommendations in the top 2008 game and was not disappointed. I totally agree with Bird, the tomato with the potato is what makes it sing! So I would make sure you stick to cherry tomatoes, unless you can get garden or other very flavorful ones for the regular kind. I used more of the fresh herbs - they really make this dish too. I halved the butter (1/2 tablespoon - about 7.5 grams), and just followed step 3 and coated/warmed the potatoes (did not fry them til cripsy). These are delicious and could even be eaten for breakfast like homefries!

  4. Delicious, easy, and healthy! I made this recipe based on Chef#452940's recommendation for the Top Favorites of 2008 Game. I did not have chives so instead used 3 spring onions and 2 tablespoons of butter and 1 teaspoon of dried basil instead of fresh. I did not cut the potatoes into smaller pieces so the texture of the potato was soft, but if I had sliced them as 2Bleu had done it would have been a more fried crispy texture. And I did not use the wine-it was gone already. LOL! I served this recipe with grilled cabbage and Recipe#268135. Thanks Mandy for keeper. Made for Top Favorites of 2008 tag.

  5. This recipe made it into our Book #231450. 2/26/08 - I have always said if there were ever a mater/tater recipe, I'de grab it up just for the name. I am so glad I found this one. WOW! I used small red potatoes and nuked em for better flavor than boiling and it also cut down the total time to about 7 minutes. Then cut them into smaller bite sized pieces and continued with the recipe as stated (including the splash of wine, yummy!) This recipe is fast, easy, and simple! I used the spices that you stated during cooking and added nothing more, but I did add some salt after plating them up. When I tasted a potato, I thought, "Ok, a nice seasoned fried potato." Then I had a mater/tater combo on my fork, and I placed it in my mouth. I started chewing when all of a sudden, I got this delightful little zap of flavor in my mouth that made my eyelids close and my heart go MMMMMMMM!!!! Mandy, thank you so much for posting this recipe! ~Bird

Melbourne I live on a 5 acre property in the Dandenong Ranges Victoria, Australia, having moved from the burbs when I became pregnant with my now 15 year old daughter Alyssa. Once my daughter was born I became a stay at home mum as I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in daycare. She is the light of my life, I never imagined myself as a mum when younger but now wouldn't have it any other way. Alyssa was made a big sister on the 19th April 2010 when our cheeky little boy Blake was born. I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes so quickly become addicted to Zaar as it was previously known & still use it regularly. In addition to being my kids taxi  I also spend my time, reading, gardening and of course shopping. I'm lucky enough that we have the space & so love growing our own fruits, vegies & herbs, this also means we have plenty of room for animals & at the moment have 2 dogs, Max, a Jackshund who's 6, Fletcher, a Kelpie who's 4, 6 cats Snowpea, Fergus, Ginger, Tango, Annie & Cookie, 4 chooks & 2 Ducks. As well as our pets, we also have a lot of native animals around our area, we have kangaroos, wombats, echidna's, possums as well as rosella's, galah's & Cockatoo's hence the name of where I live..
