Traditional Peanut Butter and Jelly

"Nothing fancy, just a classic. Either smooth or crunch peanut butter is acceptable. Classically, the jelly is either strawberry or grape."

  1. The recipe is very good. But while I was making it, someone knocked at my door and it was really late at the time that i was making it. I check to ring doorbell and I see a man standing with a mask covering his face. I didn't know what to do, but soon he broke open the door. I hide in my closet, ready to fight when needed. I hear him, yelling, trying to find where I am. Soon it goes quiet. I think he is gone so I open the door. But right as I open the door. He jumps up to me and grabs. Im scared, wondering what he will do to me. He just looks at me in the eyes, and ran. I look around to see what he stole, and the only thing he stole was the pb and j. So I make another one and it tastes really good. Its easy to make and its tasty. 10/10

  1. This is an amazing recipe. I never thought to put these two ingredients together. Very original!!! It was a bit complex to follow. It is rather difficult to measure peanut butter in a table spoon without getting it all over your fingers. However, once you get the hang of it, it is amazing. I would have preferred to use a knife, but it did not say to do this, so I used my hand. My hand is very sticky now, but this creation is worth it. I would send my kid to school with this sandwich, but I don't want people to think he is weird as this sandwich is very creative. Too creative even for the ordinary mind. The children at my child's school have probably never seen this before, and I don't want to explode their simple minds. The flavor is immaculate. My taste buds are popping as I write this, and its quite honestly starting to worry me. Aside from this fact, the complexities from these two spreads compliment each other in beautiful ways. The complex flavor profile is overtaking. The bread was a little spicy from the peanut butter, but my buds have matured enough to appreciate this. The smooth taste of the strawberry jam calms the spice of the peanut butter anyhow, and I will now declare this incredibly complicated treat a delicacy in all known countries. I've seem to have eaten all of the jam in the house, so I have ordered more over the internet. I will be now eating nothing but this, as something this tasty certainly cant be bad for you. This recipe is 5 stars for obvious reasons.

  2. I found this recipe adequate. I made a few changes. I went with an organic white whole wheat bread. I used Nutella instead of peanut butter and I substituted the pedestrian grape jelly with wild elderberry preserves. But even with the changes I made, it's still the same recipe. I served it with a Château Pétrus and some imported hard cheese. My children absolutely enjoyed the lunch before nap time.

  2. Ok so I saw this "recipe" and thought "you've got to be kidding!". Do people really need a recipe for a pb& j sandwich? Yes this is a classic and yes it is 5 stars, though I honestly can't credit gourmetmomma for this, no offense intended, I mean this pb&j combo has to have been around since Adam and Eve, right? With regard to the recipe, I do have a couple of things to say. My own family's preference is for strawberry spread instead of grape jelly. Also, with regard to on reviewer's tip to put the peanut butter on both sides of the bread to keep it from becoming soggy, in theory that sounds great except for the fact that the jelly tends to just slide out from between the peanut butter layers. I recommend just putting a thinner layer of jelly or spread directly on the bread. You'll still get the sweet, just not as much and the bread doesn't get soggy. With regard to school lunches, I also recommend making a month's worth of these sandwiches and freezing them in individual baggies for quick lunch prep. By the time lunch comes around, the sandwich is thawed and just right.

  3. I love PB&J, and I think that it's nice to have something so simple up. Not everyone is blessed enough to have eaten these as a child, so why not expose the world? I personally like PB & honey sandwiches- just replace the jelly with a teaspoon or two of honey, and you're set.

my name is susan and i'm the proud momma of 2 boys. after 10 years as a project manager in high tech, i'm now a happy sahm. the boys are only 16 months apart, so i always have my hands full. oldest is "in process" of potty training and youngest is just now sleeping thru the night. my husband is Chef #553989. he is my partner in cooking, photographing, raising kids, and every other aspect of life. when hubby travels, i tend to rely on OAMC to make sure i eat well and feel taken care of. like most mothers of young children, i've seen my share of pb&j and processed toddler friendly foods. i'm slowly but surely returning to my pre-baby roots and beginning to take pride in what i cook again. the big difference is that now things tend to be faster, simpler, and healthier than 5 years ago. the common theme is that flavor and presentation still matter. quality ingredients and visually appealing food really do make a difference. my fall garden has tomatos (fingers crossed), radishes, broccoli, chineese cabbage, and onions. i have rosemary, sage, thyme, catnip, dill, basil, mint, and bay laurel growing in pots for my fresh herbs. zaar has helped me discover a new passion - food photography. the act of photographing my food has altered the way i cook. our food these days is filled with more color and variety, in part because fresh fruits and vegetables make for better photos. and our food is simpler. simple foods are easier to photograph. i've decided i'm not a fan of tea sandwiches and that i can't bake a decent biscuit. i could live the rest of my life without eating octopus again. i don't like to cook with canned soup, i think cool whip is an evil abomination, and i think the only purpose for iodized salt is to de-ice things. crisco has been banned from the house. i have a passion for fresh quality ingredients. i spend extra money for fresh herbs and spices because i believe i can taste the difference. i buy organic when i can, but don't sweat it when i can't. i use whole grains for my kids. i look forward to my occassional trips to central market and specs downtown. i still have a secret fondness for lucky charms and the insides of oreos. i love chocolate, the darker the better. i've never met a stinky cheese i didn't eat. i cook and eat globally... thai, sushi, curry, morroccan, brazilian, french, you name it. but i also cook and eat locally. i'm a texas girl, and that means i grill/bbq when hubby isn't around. i also love chili burgers, chili cheese dogs, frito pies, and a good cold shiner (beer). i could eat tex-mex every day. i'm a confirmed afficianado of cheap wine and the occassional cheap cigar. when i'm not momming, wife-ing, or cooking, i like to read sci fi, scrapbook, watch baseball, or collapse in a general state of exhaustion. but these days, just keeping up with all my zaar games keeps me busy.
