  1. In a pint jar, layer 2 tablespoons of each legume in order listed, until jar is full.
  2. Screw on lid.
  3. May cover lid with a circle of fabric and twine to tie on recipe.
  4. Attach this recipe:
  5. 1 pint bean soup mix.
  6. 7 cup water.
  7. 1 ham hock.
  8. 1 garlic clove, minced.
  9. 1 large onion, chopped.
  10. 1 teaspoon chili powder.
  11. 1-2 teaspoons salt.
  12. 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce.
  13. 2 carrots, chopped.
  14. 1 rib celery, chopped.
  15. Place all ingredients in a slow cooker pot.
  16. Cover and cook on medium for 7 hours or until beans are tender.
  17. (May cook soup in a stock-pot on the stove. Cover and simmer until done.).
  18. Remove meat from ham hock and return to soup.
  19. Before serving, add 3 tablespoons lemon juice.
  20. Top soup with sour cream or grated cheese.
