Trevor's Fresh Onion Dip

"My sons all time favorite dip. He insists on being the ONLY taster when preparing it. It has been in our family for ages. I would NOT recommend using mayonnaise inplace if the Miracle Whip. The flavor would not be correct. This is great with chips, raw veggies even spread on bagels and sandwiches."

Questions & Replies

  1. This basic recipe (sans Worcestershire sauce) has been in my family for decades. I've been making it going on 60 years. It's highly addictive! I've never heard of anyone else knowing about this before. I always guess on the Miracle Whip, that's what prompted me to look for a recipe (again!) Thanks for posting this.

  1. This is better than ANY dip you would ever buy in a store. DS ate almost the entire bowl before giving the rest of us a bite! DON'T get too close to him though...he sure smells like an onion! Michelle, thanks for posting such a great recipe....MY DS loves it as much as yours does!!

  2. I split this recipe in half and made one half with miracle whip and 1/2 with mayo. I’m not a fan of miracle whip but per your recommendation I thought I’d give it a try. Unfortunately as expected, I did not like the miracle whip dip version. However the Mayo one brought a tear to my eye and not because of the onions. It tasted exactly like the version my dad always made when I was a kid. Later in life he told us he got the recipe off a box of Jays Potato chips. Nonetheless it is delicious and thank you for posting it.

  3. Made this and forgot to review it. Wonderful dip; very oniony, but I love onions. I grated half and chopped half for texture; then add some chopped chives(onion family) and use season salt. Yummmers. Tell Trevor--loved it!
