Tsimmes

"from Enchanted Broccoli Forest. Tsimmes is a festive Jewish dish that combines vegetables and fruit; savory with tart and sweet. There is no official recipe, but one thing all versions have in common is the technique: just throw everything together and bake it for a long time. The dish is also fabulous for American holiday meals - an excellent variation on the traditional sweet potato dishes."

  1. This recipe is awesome! I've been making it for years. My favorite Thanksgiving dish.

  2. This is the first time I made this dish. The problem I ran into is that the cooking time wasn't nearly enough. The veggies were still somewhat raw. I added an extra hour, and although they were more tender, they still didn't have that blended flavor. Then I took the mixture and put it in a crockpot on high for the morning, and by noon, it was fine-tasted delicious with beautifully blended flavors. I am not sure why the discrepancy in cooking time. My oven works fine. Nevertheless, if you try this recipe, you might want to use a crockpot and finish it in the oven with the breadcrumbs or be prepared to bake it for a long time.
