Tvp Taco Skillet

"Textured vegetable protein (TVP) is a soy based meat substitute. It is 1 point per 1/4 cup dry for Weight Watchers. I would consider TVP to be a core food."

directions

  • Pour boiling water into dry TVP granules and stir. Let sit until water is absorbed, about ten minutes.
  • Saute onion and garlic in olive oil until onions turn soft, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Add bell pepper and sauté 2 more minute.
  • Add TVP, and stir.
  • Add tamari and spices, and continue simmering until all ingredients are well-blended.
  • Some people like extra tamari or extra spices…adjust according to your taste. Serve in hard taco shells or soft tortillas, with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, salsa, refried beans, etc.

  1. This was better than I thought it would be. Mine was a little bland because I held back on the soy sauce so next time a little more salt and I want to try red bell pepper instead of the green that I used.

  2. This was simple to make and healthy too! The only change I made was to use Braggs Liquid Aminos instead of tamari. This was a yummy quick dinner that I'll probably make again.

  3. This was very easy to make and quite delicious! The only change I made was using 1/2 t of chili powder instead of the full t it called for. This was only b/c I know we don't like things too spicy around here. Thanks for a great recipe! I will definitely do this again!

  4. This tasty recipe was easy to make. I used less oil (accidentally!) and left out the bell pepper (personal preference), salt, and pepper. The combination of seasoning gave the dish a certain sweetness, which I really liked. My meat-eating family enjoys beef tacos about once a week. There's no fooling them with the TVP, but I'll prepare this for my-veggie-self now on taco night!

  5. This was a very nice and simple recipe. I used a little extra chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder, only because of my personal taste preferences, not because it necessarily needed it. My teenagers enjoyed it as much as I did, and the leftovers made a great taco salad the next day. I would recommend this to others. Tvp is such an inexpensive ground "meat" substitute and works perfectly in this dish! Thanks for posting. :)

RECIPE SUBMITTED BY

I have always enjoyed cooking and looking for recipes. I have to admit though, until I joined Weight Watchers four years ago I never did much cooking. Since then it has became vital to do my own cooking and I find I am really good at it. I really enjoy trying new ingredients like Quinoa, Millet, Porktenderloin, hoisin sauce, beans, Textured Vegetable Protein among many other new ingredients. My family has started thinking I am a little weird with all the unusual ingredients I have in my pantry. My passions are my 3 nephews, Matthew, Lucas and Charles and my 8 parrots, Guy, Pete, Toby, Daisy, Zeke, Ernie, Max and Lu. They keep me positive when life takes a nose dive.
