directions

  • Put the spinach in a large, dry frying pan over medium heat. Cover and cook until the spinach is completely wilted, about 5 minutes. Drain in a colander and squeeze out any excess moisture. Chop the spinach coarsely.
  • Put the sesame seeds in a small, dry frying pan and toast over medium heat until light brown and fragrant, shaking the pan frequently, 3-5 minutes. Cool and grind the seeds to a powder in a clean coffee grinder or mortar and pestle.
  • Combine the soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, and dashi and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add the sesame powder and stir until well blended. Pour dressing over spinach.

  1. Yummy! I scaled the recipe back for one, left out the dashi(didn't have). Thanks! Made for Newest Zaar tag.

I only came to cooking in my 50s, when we moved home to a tiny town with only a few restaurants. I'm always on the hunt for easy, flavorful recipes (often ethnic cuisines), and I'm always ready to try something new and different! In cold weather I gravitate to stews, soups, and casseroles of the not-too-heavy kind; in hot weather I love a salad or cold soup. Partly because of my husband's diabetes (I'm borderline) and partly out of indolence, baking is not my thing.
